How To Pack a Baby Bag Like a Pro

Packing your nappy bag like a pro

If there is one thing every mom knows it’s that leaving the house with your baby to run errands is not as simple as it sounds. You don’t simply head out the door on a whim when you have a tiny human depending on you for their every need. As such, one of the first skills every new mom has to master is packing a nappy bag like a pro.

Here’s a handy checklist to get you started when you’re still feeling a little unsure about your bag-packing skills at the start:

The Diaper Stuff

There is a reason it’s called a diaper bag, after all. Ideally, you want to pack an extra diaper for every two hours you foresee being out and about. TOP TIP: Pack at least 3 more diapers than you think you’ll need. Just trust us on this one. Next up, load up on wipes (a full packet is best; accidents always happen when you least expect it to), diaper disposal bags (scented is a nice touch when you’re visiting someone’s home), bum cream (travel size) and a changing mat.

The Feeding Stuff

Breastfeeding? Great – bring along some breast pads and a feeding cover if you use one. Bottle feeding? No problem. Bring along at least three measures of formula in a container with a screw-on lid, two bottles (just in case) and a flask of hot water if you can. If you baby is already on solids you may have to add some convenient on-the-go snacks like squish packs of baby food, etc.

Just-in-Case Stuff

Pack at least two changes of clothing for your baby – ideally something that’s easy to change without too much fuss. Then add the things your baby needs to feel happy and content, e.g. their dummy (add an extra one), gripe water, blankie, soft toy, etc. Also pack an extra top and pair of leggings for yourself. It may seem like overkill, but it’s no fun walking around in an outfit covered in spit-up for the larger part of the day, trust us.

While you’re at it, pop a travel-size container of sunscreen and insect repellent in one of the side pockets and leave it there. You never know when it may come in handy. In fact, toss in a foldable sunhat for baby and yourself. We do live in sunny South Africa, after all.

Your Stuff

Just before you leave, check that you have all your own stuff packed as well. Most well-designed baby bags have a convenient zipper on the outside to stash your wallet, sunglasses, keys, lip balm, cell phone, spare charger, etc.

Following these guidelines will help you to pack your Mally nappy bag like a pro whenever you’re out and about with your sprouts.
